Museum for modern realisme
Museum MORE was founded in 2015. The name MORE is an abbreviation of MOdern REalism. As a privately initiated museum, it is a vibrant and ambitious institution that presents the rich spectrum of outstanding figurative art from the 20th century to the present day. We consciously explore the boundaries of what can be considered ‘realism’ and challenge traditional perceptions in surprising ways. Thanks to its international perspective, Museum MORE places its own Dutch collection within a broader and more in-depth context: a century of realist art. This is presented through a permanent collection display across three locations (MORE Gorssel, MORE Ruurlo and MORE Twickel), alongside temporary exhibitions featuring art from both the Netherlands and abroad.
The first Museum MORE location opened in 2015 in Gorssel, a beautiful village in the municipality of Lochem, Gelderland. The former town hall of Gorssel underwent a major renovation and expansion, resulting in seven exhibition spaces designed by architect Hans van Heeswijk. Less than a year after opening its doors to the public on 2 June 2015, MORE Gorssel welcomed its 100,000th visitor.
The second location opened in 2017 in Ruurlo. MORE Ruurlo is located in the historic Kasteel Ruurlo.
The third location will open in 2026 in Delden. MORE Twickel is located in the picturesque village of Delden.
